The idea behind the UDesign Studio website is simple - create an environment that allows children to create their own ‘designer’ clothing which they can share with their family and friends online. The website also allows them to get their designs produced and sent directly to their home so they can wear their own range of clothing.

Donna Naseby the brainchild behind the idea said: “I was looking for ideas for my daughters birthday party and ended up doing a fashion design party which was a great success. My daughter is 10 and I struggle to buy clothes for her that she likes. This allows children to build up their wardrobe with their own designs, and allows their ideas to become a reality.”

She added: “There’s a huge thing around creative learning at the moment, and they [the website visitor] don’t need to buy the products, they can just play around on the site.”

The project involved a number of phases, the first being to establish the identity of the business and set down the tone of voice that conveyed the ethos of fun, creativity and learning. We did this by creating a visual toolkit of key brand elements that include the logo design, illustration style and the development of the ‘Odd Bod’ character.

The Odd Bods are fun characters that can be endlessly customised and added to garments to further personalise them to create the users very own unique brand style.

During the design of the interface we kept sight of the importance in keeping the sense of fun prevalent and created highly visual pages that make navigating the site an explorative experience.

The website is developed on a custom content management system built by the clever Komodo techies allowing Donna to manage the content on the site as well as processing customer orders for garments.

Social media channels are integrated and children can share their creations with friends and family via Facebook and Twitter.
