Eczar

RECOMMENDED BY CATHERINE HOPKINS

A different look and feel for a serif font. I personally like to use this one for headers, be paired with a sans-serif body text, that way it provides a balanced font contrast. Traditional at first glance, Eczar provides a modern twist to a classic style, adding ample personality to your text. I would recommend using for projects that want to project a traditional look without coming across outdated.

Open Sans

RECOMMENDED BY JAMES TABINER

A humanist sans-serif typeface that has been optimised for print, web, and mobile interfaces. The legibility of the type makes it a go-to for many interfaces. It’s one of the most known and used open-sourced fonts on the internet and overall is a very clear and well-balanced typeface.

Playfair Display

RECOMMENDED BY THOMAS WOOD

Influenced by the designs of John Baskerville, Playfair Display is a fantastic serif typeface that works extremely well for heading text, especially set in the Playfair Display Black font style. As the title suggests, this typeface is best set for display in a large pt size, best paired with Georgia or Crimson text as the body text for a modern serif style combination.

Poppins

RECOMMENDED BY JACK JOHNSON

This typeface has a very clean geometric shape and makes for a perfect web font to be used in body text. The spacing and height are almost identical, making for a very clean look. Setting the font in bold also provides the option of having clean and concise headings. Poppins could be seen as a more rounded alternative for Circular.

Space Mono

RECOMMENDED BY THOMAS WOOD

Space Mono is a very particular typeface, not your go-to workhorse but a monospace font with a difference. It contains very strong geometric and grotesque details, executed perfectly by Colophon Foundry. It works really well at larger sizes, so is great for large headings or projects that require a different look and feel—one of my favourites for sure.
