Ubisoft Reflections Website

Designing an image intensive and responsive website for industry leading gaming studio, Ubisoft Reflections.

The North East is lucky to have an abundance of talent, flair and innovation, along with a healthy dose of good fun.

Nowhere is this more evident than at Newcastle-based Reflections, Ubisoft’s only AAA gaming studio in the UK. A studio with the goal to ‘create and contribute to successful and memorable games’, they have used their technical expertise to deliver and collaborate on games such as Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands, Watch Dogs 2, and more recently Grow Home and Grow Up.

After a competitive tender process, we were pleased to be chosen to work with their marketing team to redesign, develop and update their current website.

Our main objectives for the project were as follows:

  • Encourage recruitment applications from senior candidates.
  • Increase content engagement.
  • Embody the revised brand and corporate identity online.

It was crucial for the team that they would all be tangible metrics which can be tracked and measured through Google Analytics as a success factor.

Interface Designs

As part of the project, we were tasked with producing the wireframes and full interface designs for the new site. This involved using elements of their current visual assets and complementing this style throughout. By doing so, our goal was to increase brand awareness and improve key audience engagement.

Getting complex and interactive designs to work and look consistent across a growing multi-device landscape of desktops, mobiles and tablets would prove to be one of the more complicated aspects of the project. Throughout the design process, we kept cross-platform optimisation front of mind.

Collaborating with the Reflections team to tweak and make iterations to the designs turned out to be exactly how a good client to digital partner relationship should be. That is, a mutually agreed amount of challenge, compromise and communication which would ultimately see the designs we had all envisioned improved and all the stronger for it.

Front-end & WordPress Integration

Adhering to the designs, our developers set about producing a responsive front-end, integrating with WordPress where content management was relevant for the page structure. Due to the bespoke nature and image lead design direction, it’s worth noting that some non-content aspects of the website would require manual changes from our team.

A second iteration of the site saw an integration with the API for Ubisoft’s recruitment tool, ‘Smart Recruiter’. This allows for a centralised and consistent application process across the different Ubisoft studios’ websites.

What I valued most about Komodo, besides their creativity, was their unwavering service mentality. It is rare to find an agency so fiercely dedicated to a client’s success.
