What we build

We design and build the software your business runs on: senior-led, AI-accelerated, then run and improved for years. Building software in Newcastle since 2003.

What webuild

The shapes

23 years of this work settles into a handful of shapes. These are the ones we build most often; if yours is not here, it is probably close to one that is.

Operations-critical systems

Software where getting it wrong has consequences: witnesses arriving at the right courtroom on the right day, officers updating incidents from the street instead of the station, specialists handling hazardous material with the right information to hand.

First-of-kind products

Software for problems nobody has solved yet. There is no template to copy, so we start with the people who have the problem and work forwards from there.

Platforms and marketplaces

Software that sits between people and what they need: independent couriers bidding for deliveries, learners finding their way through catalogues of complex courses. Built to hold up as both sides grow.

Integrations

Systems that don’t talk to each other, made to. Including the gnarly kind: legacy data, undocumented APIs, the integration everyone else has declined.

AI, put to work

AI built into products, and into the processes around them. A recent build cut a client’s specialist audit reviews to a fraction of the time they took; the harder question was where AI earned its place.

Alongside your team

Sometimes the right shape is our engineers inside your team. We slot in, hold our own, and leave the codebase better documented than we found it.

None of these arrived as a specification. Each one started with someone describing a problem, which is all the first call needs.

The designcraft

Design

Design at Komodo is led by our Design Director. His job is to design great experiences that translate into software people can use without a manual.

The craft is in the digging: how the work actually happens, who the software is for, and what would make their day better. That understanding is what the prototypes and interfaces are built from, and it is why they hold up in front of real users. The path that gets you there, and what it costs, is on How we work.

UX and UI

UX and UI run through every discovery and build rather than sitting apart as a service. We start from how the work is actually done, and we test the prototype with real users wherever the discovery allows.

Brand

Where the product needs it, we handle naming, identity and the visual system your software ships with. Brand work here exists to serve the product.

Theengineering

Build

A prototype that demos well and software that holds up under real users, real data and real attackers are different things, and the engineering is where that difference gets made. Software we have built has scheduled witnesses into courtrooms, kept police officers out in their communities, and put safe-handling information in front of specialists working with dangerous remnants of war. That is what production-grade has to mean here.

How we build with AI

We spent two decades building software the traditional way: discovery, design, engineering, QA, release. That workflow is now AI-integrated end to end, and the judgement we built up over those years is what makes the tooling safe to use at speed.

Our senior engineers build with AI in the loop and review every line before it ships. We carry the responsibility for what goes live.

The stack is deliberately unexciting: proven tools with deep talent pools, so you are never trapped with something only we can maintain.

Security, testing, data handling and performance are the slow, unglamorous part of the job, and they are the part that decides whether your software is still working in year three. Some of ours is well past year ten.

Once the build is paid for in full, you own the code, the data and the keys. We host it for you by default, and the hosting is portable, so if you ever leave you leave with everything. Nothing is wired so that only we can run it.

Already had something built that you're not sure you can trust? We take on existing builds too: we stabilise them, get them properly tested and documented, and put them on the same footing as our own work. The first call works exactly the same way.

Support,maintain and grow

After launch

When it goes live, we run it: hosting, monitoring, security and updates, handled by the people who built the system and know why every part of it is the way it is. When something needs looking at, nobody is reading the code for the first time.

Maintenance is the floor, not the point. Through the year we keep improving the product: watching how it is actually used, tuning what is slow, removing what is not earning its place, and building what your users ask for next, so the software keeps up with what your users need next.

Most clients renew, and some have been with us for well over a decade.

Builds are delivered with a 12-month maintenance and hosting agreement as standard, sized to the build and agreed before we start. The terms, and how the money works across the whole path, are on How we work.

A highlycapable team

The team

A small, senior team shaped by 23 years of shipping. The people who scope your work in the first conversation are the people who design and build it, and the same team stays with the product after launch. No handing you down to a junior bench once the contract is signed.

All of this is checkable.

Every capability on this page traces back to something we shipped for a named client. The proof lives on its own page.

Our work

where to

start?

Most builds here started as a problem someone described on a call. Plain English, no obligation. If we don't think we can help, we'll say so and point you somewhere better.
